Dental Veneers

Our Virginia Beach Dentists offer high-quality veneers to help you get the smile you want. As long as the tooth structure is sound and the roots are secure, we can apply veneers to your teeth. In order to get this procedure, you must treat other dental issues like cavities and gum disease first.

What is a Dental Veneer?

Dental veneers are made with thin layers of porcelain or resin composite materials. They are placed over the top of your natural teeth to give them a brighter, more even appearance. Before applying them, we do a full assessment of your mouth to determine the shape and color they should be.

How is a Dental Veneer Used?

Our dentists use veneers for many different purposes. In many cases, we use them to close gaps in between teeth. We can also use them to make your teeth even in length. Additionally, many people want veneers to restore the color of their teeth. It’s possible for teeth to lose most of their color over time. In this case, veneers may be the best way to restore your teeth to their original color. Veneers are very versatile and can provide a clean, even look for your mouth.

The Procedure

The first thing we do to prepare an individual for this procedure is take an impression of the specific teeth. Taking an impression allows us to create the veneers based on the exact shape of the teeth. Everything will be replicated as much as possible to match your original teeth. We will examine the color of your teeth and pick the appropriate shade.

Before the veneer is placed, the surface of the enamel of the tooth must be removed. Doing so allows us to place the veneer and make it flush with your gum line. Temporary veneers will be provided until the permanent ones are ready for placement. Once the final veneers are ready, we will remove the temporary ones and fit the finished product perfectly to your teeth. The veneer will be permanently bonded to the tooth, so we take the time to make sure the veneer is fit perfectly onto your tooth and that it looks proper.

After the Procedure

The operation puts stress on your teeth, so it may be uncomfortable or sore for a short while after the procedure is finished. We recommend some form of pain medication to help relieve some of the pain you may have. It may be a good idea to use something cold to press onto any swollen areas to help reduce swelling. Soft foods are also important to reduce stress on your teeth and gums for a few days.

Benefits of Dental Veneers

Veneers are an affordable way to make your teeth look great. It is an easy procedure and great way to transform your smile entirely. One major benefit of them is you don’t need any form of surgery, which means less pain and more time for you to enjoy yourself outside of the dentistry. Veneers are also very natural looking, as they are designed specifically to match the rest of your teeth.
